My experience at the event:
To get ready for the 94.7 ahead of me, I decided to enter the 40km non-competitive event that took place last Saturday at the Waterfall estate in Sunninghill. After buying a bicycle for Lindsey in August, she decided to enter it as well, and so for the first time ever team Olgiati was ready to take part in a bicycle race!
The route was a 5km loop that we had to complete 8 times. We started a little later that we were supposed to (we got there almost in time!) and for the first 2-3 laps Lindsey's bicycle, which never tested proper routes, had a lot of issues: brakes were unbalanced or not working, the sit was wobbly and the gear shifting wasn't in the right place. So after struggling on a slow start (too many people on estate's roads not too wide!) we switched so Lindsey could race with my perfectly tuned bicycle.
After we fixed the mechanical problems, it was Lindsey's lack of experience in bicycle rides that almost made us stop. She got tired, she fell and she injured herself. But, like a true soldier, she managed to get up and continue because she wanted to finish. What a wife I have!
And the last 4 laps, once we go in the swing on things (and with less and less people on the roads) were a breeze, and we both completed the 8 laps and got our deserved medal!
It was a great experience to complete a race with Lindsey. Even if after it we were both half dead!
