My experience at the event:
I'm not too worries to see my name so low in the finish list. My goal was to get my legs back swinging on the mountain bike, and enjoy the ride with Lindsey, who unfortunately has been injured for a while.
Moments before the race Ready to go! So in an incredibly hot day (and without my trusty Camelbak with fresh water and essential puncture tools, which I left at home...) we started at 9.30 from Waterfall Estate somewhere in the North of Johannesburg, with the idea of finishing around the 3 hours mark.
At the start of the race The long bottleneck... The first part of the race was quite easy, but we got stuck in a long 20 minutes bottleneck because of some sewage pipe which was broken and forced all the riders to pass it one at the time.
Lindsey still enjoying the ride Trying to avoid cows The difficult part was within the massive Leuwkop Prison, with long hills on rocky surfaces and Lindsey getting tired and in pain. But like a true solder, she always found inner strength to get back on the bicycle and continue the race, even refusing to use the "chicken run" shortcuts and instead facing dangerous downhills.
On the hills of Leuwkop Lindsey is a bit tired... We finished just above the 3 hours mark , completely covered in dust, but happy to get another nice medal for our efforts!
