My experience at the event:
The 94.7 didn't really prepare me well for this. Since I peaked 6 weeks ago for the 70.3 Iron Man in Durban, I found it difficult to get back to the toughest of the sports: long distance running. So with too many extra kilos accumulated, I started the race with Andy under some nice clouds, hoping that the weather won't change.
For most of the race I was keeping pace with last year's PB, but then a storm unleashed above us, and with my super smooth shoes, I kept losing the grip, braking on the downhills to avoid injuries (didn't help) and suffering too much on the uphills. The last 10km were a nightmare, and finished 25 minutes slower than last year (still better that the 2 previous years though!).
I waited under the rain for Andy (who finished just above the 4hrs mark) and collected my medals (two, because I completed the Johannesburg duathlon with the previous week's 94.7 cycle race) and drove home, with an injured body and pride!
