My experience at the event:

With the Comrades in mind, Andy and I decided to stop taking part in 10km (we train weekly on longer distances) and focus on the 21km, on our way to work out speed during shorter distances than marathons/ultra.

The day turned out to be perfect to get some speed going. Over a perfectly organized course, Andy smashed his personal best and I managed to complete a 21km keeping an average of just under 5 mins/km. Few years ago I would have been almost disappointed, but with a recent run of bad results in multiple sports, it was something to be happy about. Also I tried to focus on my stride, to make it shorter in order to avoid the usual issues for such a heavy runner as I am.  The only annoyance? In the last km I hit the curb and ripped my shoe! But hey, it was a great day.
